Origins of Lynn Minmay

The initial stages and concepts of SDF Macross only included Minmay as a minor role. She was conceived of as a delivery girl for a Chinese restaurant. In the late stages of SDF Macross’ planning Haruhiko Mikimoto desired to pay homage to Seiko Matsuda and redefined Minmay as a pop idol. In an effort to distance SDF Macross from Star Wars, Shōji Kawamori chose to use music as the deciding factor instead of a climactic battle.
